Fundraiser: CSL 34th Annual Kitchen Tour

I love the variety of projects that working in interior design provides. Whether it be the process of concept to creation, or simply admiring the work of my peers and fellow designers, interior design has a way of transforming the soul as well as amazing spaces. It also has the ability to help save lives. Friday, May 16th, is the Community Service League's (CSL) 34th Kitchen Tour in Hillsborough and San Mateo. This annual fundraiser not only gives approximately 700 people the chance to see amazing interior design work in kitchens, living rooms and other notable spaces, but proceeds benefit the two agencies CSL supports: The Mental Health Association of San Mateo County and the StarVista Crisis Intervention & Suicide Prevention Center. The Mental Health Association provides food and shelter for the homeless and mentally ill, as well as free lunches and social opportunities for mentally handicapped residents of our county. The Star Vista Center provides a 24-hour suicide prevention hotline, affordable counseling, family stress services, and youth suicide identification and prevention services in our schools.

The Community Service League (CSL) is a nonprofit organization staffed entirely by a group of dedicated women committed to directly impacting the quality of life of San Mateo County residents in crisis or challenged by mental health issues. CSL’s fundraising year begins in September and ends in June. Since 1976, the Community Service League has donated over $1,000,000 to the agencies they support. I have had the pleasure of being involved in this fundraiser for a few years now, both as a stager and a Co-Chair. But a little bit more about the kitchen tour. Featuring five homes, the self-guided kitchen tour gives guests the opportunity to find inspiration in other interior design work. Each house has been remodeled within the last five years and was placed on the tour because of its unique design and features. Architects, interior designers, electricians, artists and homeowners have joined forces to turn ordinary spaces into enjoyable and relaxing environments to entertain and find peace. Family and friends are invited to participate in this event and enjoy delicious tastings, view local artists' work and watch floral and other interior design demonstrations.
