Last week the world lost Oscar de la Renta, a fashion icon who also had roots in interior design during his inspiring career. His work was featured in hundreds of magazines and films and was adored by celebrities.
Oscar de la Renta’s creativity was relentless, leading him to explore several successful projects within the design industry. Although he was internationally known for his innovative and classic high-end fashion, Oscar also dabbled in furniture design with Century Furniture, where he launched a collection with the award-winning manufacturer of upholstered and wooden pieces.
I began my career in the fashion industry and had the joy of seeing his new collections every year. Oscar’s work with fabrics and experimentation with color definitely influenced my own interior design career.
It’s hard to convey the mark he left on the world, but I think the legacy of Oscar de la Renta is best summed up by the man himself, “Fashion is about dressing according to what’s fashionable. Style is about being yourself.”
