It’s amazing how inspiration can be found practically anywhere. While visiting Santa Cruz, my family and I ventured to the Dream Inn, Santa Cruz’s only beachfront hotel. Instantly flooded with clever ideas, I pulled my husband in to explore the unique qualities that Dream Inn possessed.
This iconic 165-room hotel was built to replicate its namesake and take you into a dream-like space where the beach is literally right outside your window.
The 160s retro-themed hotel reopened its doors in 2008 to the tune of a $20 million remodel by Joie de Vivre. Every room has a private balcony with a breathtaking ocean view.
Wandering around, I was truly inspired by the collision of 1960s retro and modern-day accents in the lobby, outside landscaping and the hotel 4-star restaurant: Aquarius.
This particular sculpture using chain was a stroke of genius. The chains go well with the beachfront theme while carrying some industrial notes. The hotel boasted many trees and this chain was an incredible addition.
A paisley design is a favorite of mine and the marine take on a western print went perfectly with the lighting and other décor.
While we didn’t stay at the Dream Inn, I can tell you I definitely plan to at some point. I would love to see how a night of rest in the hotel would change my perspective, perhaps leading to more inspiration.
Have you ever stayed? What did you think of it?
