I had the wonderful opportunity to take a day to visit the stunning coastline of Big Sur. Big Sur is a beautiful, protected region of land on California’s central coast where the Santa Lucia Mountains arise. Just getting there is a beautiful drive, not too far from my Pacific Grove home and the Carmel area. It was a fun day trip with two girlfriends to celebrate birthdays and just spend some time together.
Our main destination was the Post Ranch Inn for the birthday lunch, where the luxurious yet discreet 60's mod accommodations were surrounded by natural beauty at every turn. The architecture of the various lodging structures (both cabins and treehouses!) boasted of rustic elegance which was enhanced by the beauty of the coastline.
Just strolling around the grounds at the Inn was a treat for the senses. The landscaping and gardens were filled with unique plants and flowers against the backdrop of the mountainous California coast. Scattered about were sculptures depicting the native culture. Particularly delightful was a “Chef’s Garden” which supplied herbs and vegetables to the restaurant at the Inn.
Speaking of the Chef's Garden at The Post Ranch Inn--I also had the privilege of dining at their own restaurant--the Sierra Mar. The food was prepared and displayed artfully for each dish. Definitely recommend!
Our final stop was the Loma Vista Gardens and the nearby Big Sur Bakery. This gorgeous venue is a popular spot for weddings in Big Sur. While walking the premise I could see why couples find it so attractive. The beautiful natural landscaping mixed with a stunning dining experience create a prime atmosphere for celebration. We planned on getting a treat from the highly recommended bakery, however it was closed for a wedding. Although disappointed about not being able to get a treat, we were enchanted by the set-up for the wedding about to occur.
Visiting places of natural beauty such as Big Sur, right in my own backyard so to speak, gives me a chance to recharge, spend time with friends, take advantage of a great local experience and take in inspiration for my interior design work. The colors and nature constantly inspire me and reinvigorate my work.
If you are in the Big Sur area I can highly recommend all of these local venues and vistas for a visit. You will not be disappointed! Reservations and sturdy walking shoes advised!!!
