Recently I had the pleasure of doing a deep dive into a resource I had been interested in learning more about - glass blowing. The opportunity presented itself in the form of a tour of the renowned Studio Bel Vetro. Located in Healdsburg, CA, they create custom chandeliers for hospitality, residential, interior designers, architects and well as homeowners.
The studio in owned and operated by a charming couple who employ a talented crew of designers and glass blowers. Limited only by ones imagination, they create a spectacular array of lighting options. Famous for their creative use of "bubbles" - glass blown balls used in large quantities that make a spectacular impression when combined in a single chandelier or strung in succession and lit.
Their new showroom is in downtown Healdsburg, and they love visitors! Locally you can view some of their handiwork in the form of a custom glass antler chandelier at the nearby Geyserville Gun Club Bar & Lounge. A must see!
On my tour I was intrigued to learn that before they ship their custom-made chandeliers off to a client, they assemble each one completely in the workroom, meticulously labeling each piece for assembly when it arrives at its final destination. Another fun fact is that each faceted pieces is blown into a smooth, rounded shape, then each piece is faceted by hand. Needless to say it is an impressive feat and one that requires a lot of patience.
I learned so much about the glass blowing process and what it really takes to create these works of art. Check out Studio Bel Vetro's website to get a taste of what they can create!
